Tired of bureaucracy and ready to stick it to the man? Are you frustrated that you aren’t able to concisely know your rights? Or just curious to learn more about the law and the legal system? Then the LégisForum colloquium is here for you!

Created by students of the Faculty of Law of the Université de Montréal, the event hopes to bring free legal information to the public through conferences given by some of the best professionals and up-and-comers in the Montreal legal community.

The conference kicks off by a half-hour conference that will be given in French by Daniel Turp, a professor of the Université de Montréal, about laws and their intelligibility—anybody who has tried to read some of our laws (fiscal ones come to mind at this time) knows how difficult that is. After the opening conference, the event divides itself into five rooms, each specialising in different topics. The audience will be able to pick which conference they will like to go to. At 3 pm, everyone gathers back together for a closing conference given in English by Karim Renno, a lawyer from Reno and Vathilakis, a litigation firm.

Conferences are given by people as diverse as the topics covered, with many conferences available in English as well as French. From family law and wills and trusts to consumer protection and small claims court, there is sure to be something that suits your interest. Immigration law? Check. There is also a dedicated section to presentations that will be given by the Legal Information Clinic at McGill, Pro Bono Students Canada, and Option consommateurs (a public interest consumer protection group). Held on a Sunday, there is no reason not to come. You might even win some hockey tickets that are up for grabs!

LégisForum runs from 10 am to 4 pm on March 12, 2017 at 3200 rue Jean-Brillant. Learn more about the event here and make sure to visit their website here!
