Great news guys! I know I say it quite often recently, but is it my fault there are a lot of great things happening on the comedy scene of Montreal? Yeah, that’s what I thought!

So, as I was saying, Dépflies, the only bilingual contestant on the ComedyCoup of CBC in Canada made it not only to the top five, but they also – wait for it – got the contract with CBC to make the show appear on TV!

This came as a surprise as the original winner was a Vancouver born team, the Home Town. Only five teams made it to the the final pitch scene in Whistler, BC. These five were: Charlie and Yoni #LifeAfter30. (Toronto, ON), Wilderness Man (Vancouver, BC), and Wharf Rats (Charlottetown, PEI).

Each of the teams are just amazing and so different. If you didn’t get a chance to get to know them yet, here is a recap: Home Town is a sci-fi like comedy scene where an ork wishes to live among humans and get a feel for what that would be like. Some other characters are funny and strange all at the same time, like the camera salesman who you just have to see for yourself; Dépflies, we’re already familiar with, but just to recap: the comedy scene is set in a Montreal convenience store (dépanneur in French) and the series depicts all of the subcultures of our awesome city; next on the list is Charlie and Yuni, and their sketch with life after 30 and the desire of being famous; Wilderness Man is a very special one too. A wilderness man living in the forest and talking to mushrooms and plants is very entertaining to watch; Wharf rats, is a comedy sketch depicting a typical lifestyle of a PEI fisherman, obviously making it funny with he main characters soft of lacking any brain function at all. The choice was hard to make.

Obviously everyone was nervous as every team was supposed to start with the pitch in front of the jury followed by their video compilation. All five teams were amazing and the choice was incredibly hard to make. Hey, maybe that’s the reason Human Town took the first place but Dépflies, so charming and unique, won the jury’s hearts, and made it to the top as well.

The only bilingual contestant on the CBC ComedyCoup not only made it to the top five, they actually made it to the very top! And that means that we’ll see them on TV in the fall of 2015 (or something like that, but once it’s confirmed I will definitely let you all know).
