Colibri and Demain, two shows performed by the graduates of The Montreal National Circus School will be presented from May 31st until June 12 at La Tohu.

Since the inception in 1981, the Montreal institution graduates circus artists and performers who are now working in some of the biggest companies worldwide. With these two shows, this year’s graduates have a chance to show the world their skills in a multitude of disciplines.

Demain is a show created by actress and director Marie-José Gauthier. 19 energetic and passionate artists perform in the ring. From acrobatic prowess to figure jumps, the relentless action gives the spectator no time to rest. The high tempo music is a tumultuous waltz that adds an interesting contemporary touch to an old art, but is surely contemporary here.

Colibri is created by Edgar Zendejas, choreograph and director, and 12 students. The show brings us into a completely different world. The fluidity of the human body, its sensuality and movement as a communication tool, sets us miles away from the usual circus representations. The dance experience of Zendejas showcases the performers with elaborate circus elements in an other-worldy spectrum of the art.

While it may be possible to feel the lack of experience and the nervousness of the graduated students, they are certainly on a good path and should absolutely be proud of what they have learned and how they can apply those new skills while practicing the noble discipline of circus arts.

Colibri and Demain are at La Tohu on May 31-June 12. Tickets to Colibri are HERE and Demain is HERE.
