Dillon Francis performed a fantastic set last Sunday at Montreal’s New City Gas. It was my first time ever at this venue, and it could not have given me a better first impression. The set featured amazing tracks that were both released and unreleased; all of which were literally made to dance to.

After arriving and a bit of exploring, I was able to catch a bit of the second opening group. While they were not necessarily bad, they did not really get me excited for Dillon Francis at all. Though I’m sure it was intended, the set was quiet and dark and didn’t quite fill the venue. This just made the moment that Francis’ set started much more wonderful

With a very big and flashy stage setup, it was obvious that Dillon Francis was going to be a more serious set. From the second he started playing his music, the change in atmosphere went from almost sleepy to crazy-rage-dancing. Everything was louder, brighter, and it was an amazing way to start a set.

The lights were perfectly matched to the music and enhanced the concert experience. In addition, the big flashy stage constantly displayed cute and funny meme-able graphics. From cats, to pizza, to butter, the display definitely showed off the inner “class clown” that Dillon Francis is known for.

During the set, Francis was constantly smiling and shouting different encouraging things into his mic. He definitely looked like he was having a fantastic time himself. Actually, at one point the whole audience (even the people near the back) got down on the ground and he proclaimed that “Montreal, you are the best night of the tour!” I sincerely believe he wasn’t just saying that because he had to.

Dillon Francis was amazing and I would not think twice before seeing him in concert again. To be honest, I think I’m going to be closely following Dillon Francis from now on. He is an amazing artist, and he is constantly producing new music. Not only that, he is funny and seems like a cool dude and I have a lot of respect for him.
