Anything but Stewart McLean

Jian Ghomeshi, wow, where to even start on this one. I have to admit that I feel like a bit of a sucker when it comes to the whole Ghomeshi thing. I’ve been a fan of ‘Q’ for a long time, when the story broke last week I was one of the first to jump up and hold the Ghomeshi torch. Let’s face it, the facebook post was pretty heartfelt, and I am a firm believer that what goes on between consenting adults is their business. If someone wants to put on rubber boots, stick a feather up their ass and ride a donkey around their bedroom, as long as everyone is consenting, it is none of my business. But holy shit it’s looking like I am the only guy left in Canada that this guy didn’t assault. Toronto police have launched an investigation. In one week this story has gone from a ‘he said, she said’ story to a full out serial rapist story, and that’s not funny at all. I think that losing his job has turned into the last thing that Jian Ghomeshi needs to worry about.

Another Sad Dave and Morley Story…

out of work

out of work

Management at the CBC has announced last week that it will be cutting 400 jobs by March 31, 2015. This is only the beginning of cuts at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. They had formally announced they will be cutting 1500 jobs by the year 2020. The funds from these job cuts should be just about enough to cover the 55 million they are being sued for by Jian Ghomeshi.

Ok are you sitting down, this might come as a shock. The MUHC Superhospital is behind schedule. Keys to the Superhospital were to be delivered to MUHC officials Sept. 30th. As it stands now contractors are being fined $5000 a day for the delay. “It’s a complex process and everyone is working to make it happen as soon as possible”, says Julie Paquet, spokesperson for the MUHC. Is there one single soul out there who actually believed that this project would be finished on time? Hello? Anyone?

Montreal Epic Meal Time vs. PETA

The animal cruelty group PETA made an appearance in Montreal last week, outside of the legendary Schwartz’s Deli on St-Laurent. They stopped by to harass the lunchtime crowd. Three young women, stripped down and painted to look like they had no skin, held signs that read “flesh is flesh,” and chanted various hippy slogans. PETA puts me very much in mind of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, trying to cram their beliefs down my throat. Look I have nothing against you guys, but if I want your help I will come and get it. Montreal, let’s tell those skinny bitches to go back where they come from. We like our meat smoked and our dogs hot.

Stop that Pig

A felon has been recaptured in St-Thomas-d’Aquin after the second police chase in a week. Bacon the Pig managed to slip away from police two Sunday’s ago and had been on the lam. With the help of local residents and members of a Drummondville protection group, Bacon has been captured and is safe and sound. Animal protection officials are trying to track down Bacons owner, he won’t give up their name. However, he did say he was in favor of PETA showing up outside of Schwartz’s Deli last week.

This had to happen sooner or later. A Montreal woman has won a small claims court case against the internet giant Google. Google’s Street View car passed by the woman’s house in 2011 and caught her exposed breast. Although Google Street View did blur out the woman’s face (and boob) it was not enough. A judge awarded her $2250 in damages for invasion of privacy. Guess who is gonna have his ass out next time the old Google car comes through his neighborhood?

7-Up executives?

Michel and Lynda Thibodeau filed eight complaints to the official language commissioner about Air Canada after taking a number of flights in 2009. They were looking for the right to sue the airline company for not being served in French. Among the complaints, ‘they were served a Sprite instead of a 7-up’. Oh I’m not makin’ this up, look it up for yourself.

The STM is going to extend the lifespan of 423 of its Metro cars for another 20 years with maintenance. These cars will have put in 60 years service when they eventually retire them. Think about it a minute, these are the same cars put on the tracks for the 1976 Olympics! STM Chief Officer Carl Desrosiers says this should save the STM about $500 million dollars. How much of that money do you think they’ll spend on retraining the ticket takers not to beat up anyone who doesn’t speak French?

The headline of the story is “Stop taking selfies with bears, officials tell Lake Tahoe park visitors”. Apparently visitors flock to the Taylor Creek Visitor Center in South Lake Tahoe, Calif., because the annual salmon run attracts many hungry bears. “We’ve had mobs of people that are actually rushing toward the bears trying to get a ‘selfie’ photo,” Lisa Herron, a spokesman for the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, told the Reno Gazette-Journal. Ok, question. How big of a fucking idiot do you have to be to rush towards a live bear? Let’s leave it there this week.
