Everyone knows poutine is Montreal’s secret weapon, and smoked meat probably a distant second. But the third most beloved food of our city could very well be the humble croissant. Finally, the croissant gets its moment in Montreal and Quebec more generally with La Fête du Croissant on April 30.

Over 60 boulangeries province-wide will be offering croissants at a very affordable $1 a pastry, over 20 of them in Montreal. Print out your evaluation card and hit any of the participating bakeries. Voters can decide if a croissant ranks on a scale of 1-5, as well as check off qualities related to  its visual, tactile, olfactory, auditory, and taste categories.

Every croissant is slightly different, but we at Montreal Rampage can speak quite lovingly about some of those on the list:

Arhoma/La Fabrique Arhoma/La Boutique Arhoma (1700 Ontario E, 15 Place Simon Valois)

Bar à Beurre (350 Notre Dame E)

Fous Desserts (809 Laurier E)

Marius et Fanny (4439 St Denis)
