FNC Review: Wet Woman in the Wind

Wet Woman in the Wind.

With a title like that, you know what to expect from the film. Literally, a wet woman who comes and goes like the wind. Shiori (Yuki Mamiya) rides her bike into the water in front of passive Kosuke (Tasuku Nagaoka). He watches her as she removes her shirt to dry out showing her bare chest. As he returns to his vocation, Shiori follows him into the forest where he lives alone in a well-equipped cabin.

The film is part of the new “roman porno”, a reboot of Pinku Eiga (erotic Japanese films) from the Nikkatsu film production, popular in the 1970s. Any film that has more than 14 minutes of sex can fall in the “roman porno” category. Understanding this, it is easy to see why the film is filled with scenes of Shiori having sex with different men.

Director Akihiko Shiota did a good job with a nice touching story on a man who wanted to escape women by leaving Tokyo and living alone in the nature. However, he gets charmed by a young woman who isn’t afraid of her femininity and wants to feel good.

The funniest part in the film other than the constant flirting and pushing away between Shiori and Kosuke is when they try to outsleep each other by making their partners orgasm.

Wet Woman in the Wind screened in Montreal as part of the Festival du nouveau cinéma.
