Hard Rock Tuesdays: Heavy Montreal Preview

It’s only fitting that for this week’s column we focus on Heavy Montreal which is only ten days away! Heavy Montreal is the premier North American festival for rock, punk and metal genres.

In 2014, Heavy MTL (an abbreviation meaning both Metal and Montreal) became Heavy Montreal with the intention of having a broader range of music selection for the festival. Since the festival first took place back in 2008, it has welcomed close to 200,000 fans and has seen bands like Marilyn Manson, System of a Down, Kiss, Motorhead, Avenged Sevenfold, Iron Maiden just to name a few…

Heavy Montreal has world class artists from all over and uses cutting edge sound and lights and consists of four stages: Molson Canadian Stage, Heavy Stage, Apocalypse Stage and the Forest Stage. It takes place at an ideal festival site Parc Jean Drapeau; with very easy access from the city, the most convenient way to get to the festival is by metro. The venue is located right next to Jean-Drapeau metro station (yellow line).

This year the headliners are legendary heavy metal gods, Metallica and Slayer. Metallica will be performing by request and will be playing their only North American performance of 2014 and fans not only get to see them perform, but also get a chance to pick the bands setlist (How awesome is that?) Other artists performing are Lamb of God, Dropkick Murphys, Pennywise, Bad Religion, Twisted Sister, Exodus and so many more great performers to check out this year. Headliners play last each day usually between 8pm and 10 pm while other artists along with emerging artists usually take the stage for 30 minutes.
