It’s Only Love : Hello!

It's Only Love with Celina Flores

Dating in this day and age can seem a little daunting. When you throw in living in a big city with so many people, and so much to see and do it can seem all the more frustrating. We have so many options, there are endless possibilities — we are a spoiled generation, really.

With the introduction of dating websites a few decades ago, and a slew of dating apps popping up in more recent years, we don’t even really have to leave our houses to find a “match.” Instead of letting the universe throw people into our lives in an organic fashion, we can now essentially shop for exactly the type of partner we want, from the comfort of our own homes. Or in the comfort of a restaurant, or bar, or bus or random street corner. You get the idea.

I think this makes things feel a lot easier but I essentially view it as a double edged sword — it can be really, really convenient and good, but it can also be really, really awkward and bad. And that’s basically where I come in. As someone who has pretty recently gotten out of a 6 year relationship with my high school sweetheart, but who now also has to try to navigate this crazy world of OkCupid-ing, thinly veiled Facebook poking and straight up street harassment that’s masked as a beautiful, poetic attempt at love (this story is a good one, I swear. Stay tuned…) I have to say that I am both afraid and amused.

This journey is one that I’m excited to share, and along the way I hope that you’ll send me questions and stories of your own. I think we can all agree that it’s hard out here, for a pimp or otherwise, but I’m ready to tackle all the issues that come up in modern day dating in this column. I’ll bring the bad puns and advice, you just keep your pretty little eyes fixed on the screen.

Til Next Time!
