Just for Him Fashion Festival : Not Just Ties and Suit Pants

just for him just for him

Montreal’s first official men’s fashion festival will be held this week, from May 26 to 28. Featuring two art exhibits and a fashion show with an impressive line-up of local and international designers, Just For Him promises to be an exciting new addition to the Montreal festival scene. I had the pleasure of speaking to Hamza Mejri, creator of ArtMtl and Just For Him, about the festival he described as “not your typical fashion week.”

Mejri, fashion photographer, credits the beginning of his interest in fashion to his mother, a Tunisian designer. A computer engineer by trade, he started up photography as a hobby. But, he explained, “As I started getting hired by magazines, I realized I could do it more seriously.” Now, along with his successful career in photography, he has built up ArtMtl, a social network for artists and exhibit organizers, where individuals can participate in competitions or submit to call-outs.

That’s where the paintings and photographs featured on May 26 and 27, respectively, at the ALT Hotel in Griffintown, came from. The exhibits will be filled with works on the theme of men and fashion, created by Montreal artists.

You can still get your hands on tickets for the fashion show on May 28, on the 19th floor of Place Ville-Marie, where you’ll be greeted with amazing fashion by designers like XOOS, Tom Tailor, Guillotine accessories and Diodati, as well as an incredible view of downtown Montreal. Carissa Vales and Alex Toutcour will provide the live music throughout the event. Tickets are available online or from the participating designers.

Mejri describes the festival as a representation of the “New man — modern men who are more implicated in fashion and art.” This is only the first edition, and Mejri is already thinking of the second one he hopes to organize for this winter, moving to a more international focus.
