KidCon: Guilt-Free Parenting

KidCon takes place October 22 and 23, 2016 at Stade Uniprix.

Parental guilt is unavoidable. As a mother of two, I do my best to raise compassionate, creative and well-rounded humans, but let’s face it – I slip up from time to time. We all do. From the occasional less-than-wholesome supper to letting them watch too much TV to not doing enough (read: zero) educational crafts, there are moments in this child-rearing journey where we don’t always shine.

But there’s something happening this weekend that has the potential to catapult your current status from regular parent to THE GREATEST HUMAN BEING WHO EVER LIVED.

It’s KidCon.

And it’s going to make you a goddamn hero.

Now it its second year, this jam-packed event is geared towards kids aged 3 -12 and their parents. KidCon’s slogan is “Everything Fun!” and by god,  they mean it. It’s like anything your child has ever obsessed over all in one place. Star Wars? Check. Paw Patrol? Yup. Sesame Street? You got it. It’s a veritable who’s who of the children’s entertainment world and it’s going to blow your kid’s mind.

From Thomas the Tank Engine live to appearances by Cookie Monster, Elmo and Abby to inflatable games to a costume parade, your child can run from activity to activity and all you have to do is make sure your halo doesn’t get lost in the frenzy.

For David Newman, co-founder of KidCon, the event pleases both kids and adults alike.

“What’s fun about KidCon is that it’s designed for families to enjoy together. The grown-ups participate as well, so they get to have fun on their own level too. There’s a video game zone with titles that are equally engaging for adults, skateboarding where everyone can try out the half-pipe and tons more. Plus, I can’t tell you how many grown-up people have come up to me and said ‘I think I’m more excited to take a picture with Cookie Monster than my kid is!’”

So if you want to feel like you’re rocking this whole parenting thing (at least for the weekend anyway), then why not check out KidCon? Sure, you might need a stiff drink afterwards, but you will have given your child a memorable day and eased some of that “am-I-doing-this-right” self-doubt that can sometimes creep into your life.

Be sure to bring your camera to capture that moment in time when you were an adored, infallible superstar. You can refer to it later when you’ve lost your sh*t about the mess of Lego on the floor.
