With the anniversary of Leonard Cohen‘s passing, Montrealers and the world are planning a memorial tribute.

An exhibit about the artist, planned and approved before his death, opens at the Musée d’art contemperain de Montréal (the MAC) entitled “Leonard Cohen: Un brèche en toute chose / A Crack in Everything” on November 9, 2017 until April 9, 2018. The exhibit features 20 works from 40 different artists including Geroge Fok (Hong Kong), Ari Folman (Israel), Clara Furey (Canada), Jenny Holzer (USA), Kara Blake (Canada), Candice Breitz (South Africa), and the Sanchez Brothers (Canada). In particular from November 7 to 11, Jenny Holzer’s exhibit projects phrases from Cohen’s poems and songs projected onto Montreal’s iconic architectural structures. There will also be a musical installation featuring performers from around the world: Chilly Gonzales, Aurora, Little Scream, Moby, The National, Half Moon Run, and Sufjan Stevens. Five concerts under the musical direction of L’il Andy will take place around Cohen’s albums as well, with guests performing songs from specific albums in the order intended. November 30 is I’m your Man (Martha Wainwright, Thus Owls, Little Scream), December 14 is New Skin for the Old Ceremony (Pierre Kwenders, Katie Moore), January 18 is Songs from a Room (Laura Suavage, Marie Pierre Arthur), February 15 is The Future (Dear Criminals, Un Blonde), and March 28 is Songs of Leonard Cohen (Coeur de Pirate, Arianne Moffatt). Finally, don’t miss Leonard Cohen Tower of Song, a massive concert, taking place at the Bell Centre and featuring a stellar list of performers: Borns, Coeur de Pirate, Elvis Costello, Fiest, Lana del Rey, Philip Glass, Bettye Lavette, Courtney Love, Damien Rice, Seth Rogen, Ron Sexsmith, Sting, Patrick Watson, Wesley Schultz and Jermiah Fraites of the Lumineers, and Adam Cohen. This stellar lineup of superstars will be putting this on as a benefit for the Canada Council for the Arts, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, and the Conseil des arts de Montréal. With a line up like this, the event is sure to be a spectacular and moving memorial to our beloved Leonard.
