Let it Be (Known) Day Tripper Will Not Let You Down! A Review of The Beatles Experience

The Mystery Tour and Sgt. Pepper’s The Mystery Tour and Sgt. Pepper’s

I’ve taken a trip back in time and experienced the best live performance of almost all of my favorite Beatles songs in one sitting. While I won’t yet give up hope that I may one day actually get to travel back to the sixties and live it myself, this show has met that need perfectly (for now).

Day Tripper, The Beatles Experience was an unforgettable show. Not only do these four guys reproduce the music, scouse accents, harmonies and costumes of the Beatles impeccably, but I was fairly certain some of the audience members were just as keen to swoon as they’d been as teens watching them 50 years ago!

From the opening notes during the first act of Beatlemania, through Shea Stadium, Sgt. Pepper’s and Abbey Road, my feet were tappin’, my head was boppin’ and I was singing along. You would be hard pressed to find someone who didn’t twist along to Twist and Shout and na na na na na na na in Hey Jude.

Ian Garcia (Paul), Peter Grant (John), Jeremy Di Donato (George), and Mathieu Groulx (Ringo), all musicians in their own right, made me a believer by embodying the Fab Four in everything but looks. They played all the music live and, with the help of keyboardist Ian Benhamou, they were even able to recreate some of the more experimental, orchestral and studio made sounds found on their later albums. George even played the sitar for us! I never thought I’d experience the orchestral cacophony of A Day in the Life live – they did it and it was outstanding.

At only two months old when John Lennon was tragically murdered, I have never had the opportunity to see The Beatles perform live. Nevertheless, their music has been in my life from day one. I love it all. This show comes as close as you’ll get to seeing them perform their hits from the early pop to the spiritual and drug fueled experimental tracks of their later years, and will even treat you to songs almost never performed live. Go.
