Imagine a space where two amazing artistic and culturally diverse cities meet to create one street art exhibition. Just the thought of New York City and Montreal coming together creatively is a wonderful idea. Station 16, Gallery of Urban Art, has recently opened its doors to its latest exhibition, NYC Meets MTL.

Premiering last Thursday evening, the gallery welcomed and proudly presented the works of well-known street artists from both cities creating an artistically diverse exhibition. Featuring very different artistic styles, the space is filled with colour, stories and cultural history.

“NYC Meets MTL” is all about street art. It is a small but personal exhibition which proudly presents each artist and their work individually but brings the inter-city street art community together. The exhibition is a chance to cross international borders, but at the same time realise the relationship within the artistic community which essentially brings the two cities closer together.

The exhibition is certainly an interesting collection of works. Not all my style, of course, but that is one of the fascinating aspects of street art. The nature of its story, production process and then the outcome of each piece. I think that’s what I love most about it! The notion that many of these art works sparked from an experience, events or emotion.

In perfect timing with this exhibition, Station 16 is also supporting the promotion of “Outdoor Gallery”. An incredible book by author and photographer, Yoav Litvin. Here, he explores the world of urban street art in New York featuring many of the artists also featured in “NYC Meets MTL”.
