For a really long time, I had wanted to see Moderat live. The last time they came back in September at the SAT, the show had sold out and I had missed my chance. Last Sunday, they dropped by the Metropolis where an incredible amount of people had joined the show. I honestly can’t remember the last time I had seen a concert venue this packed. It’s awesome to see that many people gathered together for a musical artist – at least you know you have something in common with everyone in the room.

Before the show started, I heard many people in the crowd saying how excited they were to see Moderat perform at the Metropolis, specifically, because the stage at the SAT was not that great. The excitement from strangers obviously pushed my expectations and my anticipation just grew even more. The crowd’s excitement promised me I had an excellent performance ahead of me.

Moderat consists of a collaboration between the electronic musician Apparat and electronic music band, Modeselektor and together they form MODERAT. They are from Germany so you get to hear a nice danke schön once in a while (always nice to hear). In my opinion, electronic bands are always a blast and a pleasure to see live because that’s when you get to see their chemistry and talent. The crowd was not the only one enjoying the music performance; Moderat’s DJs, Gernot Bronsert, Sascha Ring and Sebastian Szary, were bouncing to their own music. Hell, if I could create such brilliant electronic beats, I would dance my ass off as well.

Moderat began their show with their track This Time from their album Moderat II and continued with A New Error which excited the crowd right off. They performed their greatest hits, Sea Monkey, Rusty Nails, Bad Kingdom, and Damage Done. Moderat ended the show on a perfect note with their track Therapy. Ending the show with a powerful song like Therapy can only leave the crowd expecting more and literally leaving a tear in our eyes wanting another show in the upcoming months. If you have a chance and are a fan, Moderat is a group you should see live. They bringing with them great lighting effects as well as nice background art, and they delivered what a fan would hope to expect.

However, I must admit my experience on the floor was unpleasant. I forgot how sticky and sweaty you get. You can’t come out of there with only your own sweat on your clothes, believe me, there’s sweat from other people too. There’s your typical weed wiff, as well as the “unknown” fart that’s spreading all over the crowd. If you’re there with a friend, chances are, someone’s getting lost and you gotta go look for them. You’ll even hear strangers talk shit about you. I heard, literally, the girl behind me say out loud to her friends, “Hashtag (yes, she said “hashtag” out loud) BUSH in my face,” obviously talking about my hair. Well, squeeze me, lady, what am I supposed to do? Shave it for you? Screw you, and let me enjoy the show. If you know you can’t handle the floor, take a seat upstairs, you get the have a nice view without touching stranger’s butts — that’s what I’ll be doing next time.
