Those living to the West — Montreal West, Lachine, Lasalle, the West Island — have much to complain about when it comes to public transport. Considering the population density of these areas, public transport for these areas always seems underserved. Montreal, after all, is one of the few major cities that doesn’t have a rail link from its airport to the downtown. We’re still using buses!

Well amidst all that construction for the Turcot, there’s something to cheer about Westies! A new AMT train station, Gare du Canal, is opening at 115 St. Joseph (in Lachine) on the Candiac Line (the black line). The line stops at Vendome and promises to get your ass to Centre Ville’s Lucien l’Allier in 20 minutes time. The new station connects with the 90, 191, 195, and 356 bus lines.

In order to get Montrealers to try out the train, they’re offering four free train tickets while quantities last. If you’re interested, fill out the form HERE.  Normally tickets to get from the station to downtown cost $4 each (or 6 for $16) and for other fare zones, click HERE.
