July 30th was the Montreal premiere of Sausage Party  for the Just For Laughs Festival and of course Montreal Rampage was there!

Sausage Party is the first R-rated animated movie ever. The film is about one sausage (yes, you’ve heard right, a sausage) leaving a supermarket with other products and going on a quest to discover the truth about the outside world – our world. From the point of view of the food in the supermarket we, humans, are seen by them as gods, but once they find out that they are just here to be eaten, things get crazy.

The film features the vocal talents of today’s comedy stars in Hollywood: Seth Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Jonah Hill, Micheal Cera, James Franco, Danny McBride, Paul Rudd, Craig Robinson, Bill Hader, Nick Kroll, Edward Norton, and Salma Hayek.Photo 115

The Montreal premiere took place at the Imperial Theatre on Bleury. Lots of photographers and journalists were waiting there to welcome the stars. The filmmakers Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan were the first to arrive, followed by Nick Kroll, one of the vocal artists and a long-time friend of Seth Rogen.

The crowd was gathering and packing around the red carpet, waiting to see their movie star. And he finally arrived: Seth Rogen appeared, joined by a special guest, the producer and director Judd Apatow. The duo are the comedic masterminds behind movies such as This Is The End, Pineapple Express, Knocked Up, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Neighbors, and Superbad.

The first thing that announced Seth’s presence was his famous guttural laugh. You’ve heard it a thousand times in movies but it’s even more impressive and funny when he is standing 3 feet away from you. After a quick photoshoot, we were then invited to enter the theatre.

Seth Rogen made a great entrance on stage waving a Canadian flag, and the audience obviously started cheering. The room went silent when the lights went off and the movie started. After the screening, a Q&A with the cast took place on stage with Judd Apatow as the mediator and Kristen Wiig made a surprise entrance.

Of course I can’t tell you much about the movie to avoid any spoilers but it’s worth watching whether or not you’re a Seth Rogen fan. The movie tackles with an extremely funny tone many subjects that are often taboo in our society: sexuality, religion, hatred, God… I’ve seen almost every Seth Rogen movie and it’s definitely one of the funniest, if not the funniest. Brace yourself for something you’ve never seen before in an animated movie. This movie is a must-see!
