La Sala Rossa is celebrating dada’s centennial with an evening of theatre, music, mime, abstraction, poetry and “hallucinations.” A night of DADA? Sign me up! Commedia dell’Arte: Maschera e Improvvisazione, workshop

L’Institut italien de culture de Montreal, October 14 @ 2 PM

The IIC is offering something different for Montrealers this week: along with McGill University’s Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures, they are presenting a series of workshops dedicated to the Commedia dell’Arte performed by Valerio Vittorio Garaffa and Chiara Cimmino Sander, actors from the renowned School of Dramatic Arts Paolo Grassi. On October 14, you can sign up for their workshops on An approach to masks from 2 to 4 PM and The mask and body language from 6 to 8 PM. Free!

Palbric Art Foundation presents the first North American stop of Do Not Pass By, featuring surreal, vintage film posters by Czech-Canadian artist Milos Reindl in the lobby of Victoria Park from October 15-November 15. Do Not Pass By celebrates diversity, multiculturalism and integration, showcasing 30 vintage posters alongside texts about former refugees, and the impact they’ve had on the countries they now call home.

Concordia University (Jarislowsky Institute and EV 1.615), October 20-22

Concordia University’s Art History Graduate Student Association’s (AHGSA) conference focuses on how artworks, people, voices, ideas, texts, institutions, and spaces converge at specific moments in time, forming nodes of cultural energy. The opening event on October 20 (5:30-7:30), titled “When the Periphery is the Centre: A Conversation About Indigenous Arts Networks on/from the Prairies (1990-2016)”, features Sherry Farrell Racette in conversation with Amy Malbeuf, Debra Piapot and Steve Loft. The conference will continue on Friday the 21 and Saturday the 22 in EV 1.615, on the first floor of Concordia’s EV building.
