The Whiskey Charmers: They Knew How to Charm Me!

Americana/country noir. A mixture of country, folk and Gothic music. That’s how The Whiskey Charmers identify their music genre. The Detroit based trio released their new, self-named album The Whiskey Charmers on March 3, 2015. The band’s fans won’t be let down, that’s for sure. Powerful lyrics, a beautiful voice, catchy back-up music: that’s what these folks do best!

The moment the first song on the album, Elevator, started playing, I fell in love. I was captivated for every single note of the nine songs on the album. They had me in the palm of their hand.

The lyrics are so raw and honest, it almost hurts. Some sound very brutal and uncensored at first, but that’s the beauty of it all. There’s such freedom in what they’re singing, and the way they’re singing it, they’re letting you in their world and it’s wonderful. Talk about pouring your heart out! Not to mention that the lead singer, Carrie Shepard’s voice gave me the shivers. She almost made me believe in angels and I can guarantee I’m not the only one who felt that way. Without exaggerating, she has one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard — mysterious and charming. You can feel the passion behind every word she sings. She captures your soul in the most magnificent way, leaves you wanting more.

The diversity of their repertoire is also one of the many things that were brought to my attention. The Whiskey Charmers have beautiful, deep songs, such as C Blues. But, if you find those too cliché and feel that upbeat songs are more suitable for you, I have great news! The trio made sure to include a couple cheerful songs such as Neon Motel Room. Everyone goes home happy in the end, and the band showed us that they can do it all!

After taking everything into consideration, I was left very impressed with The Whiskey Charmers and their self-titled album. My only regret is that they’re far not known enough. Believe me, I am speaking from the heart when I say that these guys are incredible and deserve a lot more credit for their work. I highly recommend this album to anyone, (almost) any age. I guarantee that we can all find at least one song on the record that we can relate to. If you haven’t heard of Americana/country noir music genre, that’s ok, there’s always a first for everything, and The Whiskey Charmers are a good place to start. Their hauntingly beautiful songs will definitely leave you speechless. With all that said, let’s hope this year is going to be a big one for our fellow musicians.
