TO DO Tonight: Emojigirl Birth Party // Fundraiser

Forget the time spent writing, directing, rehearsing, and blocking a show. There’s also the costs of renting the theatre, paying for the set, the costumes, the make-up, the technology. Oh, also the cost of paying the team: the actors and the crew. Nobody said art was cheap. Local company Doublespace wants its next piece Emojigirl to pay its collaborators a “real” wage. The production costs are being kept as close to zero as possible, and money is expected to come from fundraising efforts, such as the Emojigirl Birth Party. The lineup is solid. Mike Carrozza, yes the one who writes Is This Thing On?, will be performing a set at 9. DJ Unfriendlyblackhottie is up at 9:30, followed by performer Antonio Bavaro at 11:30. The night continues on with DJ J’vlyn d’Ark at 12 and won’t stop until the doors close.

Emojigirl Birth Party // Fundraiser takes place at La Vitrola (4601 St Laurent) on March 11. 9 p.m. $5
