TO DO Tonight: Hauschka and Stefan Christoff and Nick Schofield

It’s hard not to get excited when great musicians come from out of town. Hauschka aka Volker Bertelmann is a pianist of an unfamiliar kind. It isn’t just deconstructed piano music. It’s kind of a deconstructed piano. Soundscapes, rhythmscapes, anykindofscapes. Think John Cage and you’re around the right ball park of experimentation and unpredictable wonder. Check out this set from the Boiler Room.

Openers Stefan Christoff and Nick Schofield came together to create experimental album Rêves Sonores à Montréal, a project associated with the Howl! Arts Collective. Schofield is known for being a part of Saxsyndrum, so there’s quite a bit of synthsability (get it???) to be heard. As the next edition of Howl! is soon upon us, their appearance again is timely.

Hauschka and Stefan Christoff and Nick Schofield play at Bar le Ritz PDB (179 Jean Talon W) on April 14 at 9 p.m. $12/15.
