Tea Done Right at Café Station W
The Café Station W is a shiny new café on Wellington. It has big windows at the front, so the atmosphere is light and airy, without losing its feeling of cosiness.
Mr. Man and I popped in for breakfast early one morning. You have to order at the counter, but if you order something that takes a little bit of time to assemble, the man at the counter will bring it to where you’re sitting. I, feeling quite nobly healthy, ordered a tea and a carrot/flaxseed muffin. My saucy companion ordered a coffee and a bagel and cream cheese. We sat at the table along the large windows so we could watch the snow fall (and be right near the milk and sugar counter).
The tea came in a teapot, which gives any café serious points in my book. I hate it when they hand you a cup of water and a teabag to toss in it –- that’s just uncivilized, for god’s sake. Pouring the hot water over the teabag in the cup is a bit better, but honestly, nothing beats a teapot. What’s more, instead of a teacup, I was given a glass. he concept was somewhat similar to that of the Russian tea sets. I was expecting the glass to overheat and be a pain in the ass to hold on to, but it just got pleasantly warm, and seeing the black tea tango with the milk was thrilling (slight hyperbole, but what can I say, I like tea).
The muffin was baked on premises. The moistness of the carrots, paired with the textures of the flaxseed and raisins worked beautifully. There was only a hint of sweetness, so it was perfect for early on a weekday.
The coffee was delicious, with a full body and a lovely nutty aftertaste. The bagel and cream cheese was unexceptional, nothing wrong with them, but nothing particularly memorable either.
The café has a nice atmosphere –- the décor is a mix of rustic wood and dark, brick red colors. There are bookshelves with old books as décor, and various bits and pieces, like the lovely string of tastefully bare light bulbs above the counter, that embody rustic-chic (potential etsy purchases?). The place still feels a little bit impersonal, but I chalk that up to it being fairly new and not yet getting that lovely lived-in feel.
The Café Station W is the perfect place if you want a nice, bright, clean atmosphere to clear your head.
