Canada has a long history of taking in refugees. Waves of refugees resettled in Canada following the Chilean coup d’état of 1973. In the wake of recent world events, The Refugee Hotel, a dark comedy by Carmine Aguirre, directed by Paulina Abarca-Cantin, couldn’t be running at a more appropriate time. A young woman looks back at the past, and discovers the heartbreaking and humorous truth of this historical moment.
