The Centaur’s Theatre ever stellar line-up for 2017 includes the think-piece Oedipus Part One Assembly. This show is brought to us by Montreal’s Scapegoat Carnivale Theatre, now celebrating its tenth anniversary.
This huge production features 12 actors, 3 choirs, and 2500 years of peoples’ politics. In this retelling of the show, the people of Thebes are coming together to address the plague that has devastated the city. They plead with Oedipus, as their king, to act. The show picks up on the political movements of today, the Occupy Movement, Black Lives Matter, and the Women’s March, where people are coming together to be heard. With Andreas Apergis directing the show and original music being put together by musical director David Oppenheim working with composer Brian Lipson, this should be a spectacle! Choeur Maha, Zakynthines Phones, and the Montreal Artists Choir will all be singing.
