Hard Rock Tuesdays with Debra Heather : A Rock Concert You Won’t Forget
Amnesia Rockfest
When I look back, I can recall at a young age, my father turning on the stereo and having tunes blasting out of the speakers by the greats like AC/DC, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Cinderella, Def Leppard just to mention a few. I’m sure most of us can remember being kids, goofing around and making a fist and using it as a microphone, dancing around with your air guitar or banging on an old piece of furniture playing the imaginary drums, expressing the rock star within us. At least, I know I did! Whether it’s the wicked guitar riffs, screeching solos or rasping cords there is no other music genre that expresses such raw emotion as Rock n Roll does. Simply put, it is a state of mind, therapeutic in a sense and like no other.
With that being said I’m very excited to announce that this weekend marks the 9th edition of Amnesia Rockfest taking place June 20 – June 21. Amnesia is known as Canada’s largest rock festival, and it’s conveniently located in Montebello, QC, just over an hour away from Montreal.
It began in 2005 with a 17 year old teenager who had a passion for rock music and a drive for bringing revenue and recognition to his small village of Montebello, which has a population of only 900 people. Amnesia is a non-profit and has very affordable ticket prices at just $99 for the entire weekend festival which, in comparison with other music festivals is by far a steal! Although, it borders the Outaouais river there are many ways to get there for the festival such as car, bus, shuttle and even by boat… yes you read that right you can actually boat along the beautiful Outaouais river and park your boat at the marina. From there, you can take advantage of the camping sites or stay at one of the village hotels if they are available, but I imagine they are reserved well in advance for the festival weekend.
Now let’s get to the awesome lineup Amnesia has to offer you this year. The headliner band for the first night is California punk-rockers Blink-182, who are actually leaving their studio for this rare appearance. The second night will be headlined by quintessential rock’n’roll band Motley Crue before they start their first leg of their last tour ever! So, if you’re there don’t miss them perform it might be the last chance you get to revel in the essence that is Motley Crue. In total, there are approximately 150 bands taking on the festival’s stages such as Cypress Hill, Taking Back Sunday, Alice In Chains, Weezer, Megadeth, Billy Talent, NOFX, and Five Finger Death Punch. There are so many more great bands to check out!
