We Tried It: Cinéma Sous Les Étoiles
We sent reporter Hala Taher to check out Cinéma Sous Les Étoiles / Cinema Under the Stars, an outdoor cinema program that features 45 social, political, and environmental documentary films shown free in parks.
Médéric-Martin Park is conveniently located near Frontenac Metro, making it highly accessible. There were numerous grocery stores, a depanneur, and food places near the park. It is easy to grab any last-minute snacks.
When I first arrived, the fear of being alone vanished immediately. There were people of all kinds gathering together, some on a solo date, like myself, others with their significant others, and groups of friends.
I spread my blanket on the grass and took out my snacks. While we were waiting for the documentary to start, I saw the park fill up with people arriving on bikes, people with dogs, and others carrying a bottle of wine, popcorn, or donuts with them.
At 9:15, it was dark, and the stars began seeping in, painting a breathtaking view. The sky embraced the park, making it feel like we were above the earth. There was a gentle breeze, so I suggest bringing a cover-up if you plan on going.
This experience is far more intimate than a traditional movie theater, and a unique free activity for the summer.
Cinéma Sous Les Étoiles continues until August 28, 2024. For details on films and locations, click HERE.
