Festival: POP Montreal’s Le Fun House
In the summer without festivals, event organizers are finding creative ways to make sure that fun continues. POP Montreal, home to Montreal’s alt and indie music festival in September along with seasonal indie artist markets, is brining us Le Fun House, a three day free on-line event of music and art. Le Fun House combines all the branches of POP Montreal: music, art, film, fashion, crafts, and discussion.
As POP Montreal is best known for its music festival, this comes through mostly through live streamed shows. Transmission MTL, who has consistently kept the party going week after week through shelter-in-place brings Samito, Boogieman, Gayance, and Juju Le Moko on Tiwtch. The next night start with a concert by Lydia Kepinski in her studio, and then join Club Quarantine who has Suzi Analogue, TIKA, and Hua Li. On Sunday, Elizabeth Powell will perform live at Ursa. In the evening, YAMANTAKA//SONIC TITAN performs a live horror score to the film Night of the Living Dead. Follow it up with a concert featuring Leif Vollebekk at the Rialto.
Always striving to grow wiser and better in confinement, there’s plenty of opportunities to expand one’s mind. Cuarta Baby hosts a Spanish poetry class and Aya Avalon offers a VJing workshop. Sisi Superstar teaches drag makeup. Loop Sessions teaches a beatmakign workshop.
If listening to thinkers is more your festal style, each day also has a symposium. There’s a Q&A with Orphx. Brent Lin moderates a panel on virtual spaces for marginalized performances. And, certainly timely, there is a panel on Articulating Black Identities in Music hosted by Julie Richard.
Alongside these events, there are opportunities to check out fashion from the Fashion POP showroom, artisinal products from the Puces POP market, an online art gallery from Art POP and opportunities to meet all the artists.
If you miss the events, they’ll be maintained on the POP Montreal website after. Schedule and info below.
