Hard Rock Tuesdays: Carnivores Tour Takes A Bite Out Of Montreal
This summer has proved that Montreal is definitely the place to be if you are a music lover and enjoy live performances that include some of the worlds most well-known and talented musicians. From Vans Warped Tour to Osheaga to Heavy Montreal, 2014 has been off the charts in terms of amazing concerts. We had Metallica, Slayer, Arctic Monkeys, Jack White, Dropkick Murphys, Outkast, Skrillex, Offspring, Bad Religion, and so many more great musicians. This past weekend alone was another epic event; Saturday night was the Carnivores tour which was co-headlined by 30 Seconds To Mars and Linkin Park at Jean-Drapeau and opened with AFI.
Although AFI’s set was short with nine hit songs it was a kick-ass start to the night some of the songs they performed were I Hope You Suffer, 17 Crimes, Miss Murder and Medicate.
Soon after AFI’S performance the always convivial frontman Jared Leto took the stage in his white long cloak and golden crown fit for a king, and immediately got the audience jumping as high off the ground as they could. He did an outstanding job of making the entire audience feel like part of the show. From getting the crowd to crouching low to the ground, to jumping up and down as high as possible, to sing-a-longs there was never a dull moment up on stage or in the crowd. Other features the band brought to the tour were confetti, vivid lighting effects, giant balloons and they even closed the night with inviting as many fans as they could to join them on stage while they performed their hit Closer To The Edge.
Leto himself bashfully stated near the end of the show: “I know you’re probably here to see Linkin Park so thank you for your patience.” However, I’m more than sure it’s safe to say that after 30 Seconds To Mars entertaining, energetic performance they’ve won more than a few newbies to their following of Echelons (Mars fans).

Up next was Linkin Park, who closed the night and came out with a vengeance. They had incredible energy and were basically straight to the point. They played one song after another. Although they didn’t have that much interaction with their audience their passion for using the latest technology in their sets really shined through their overall performance. Linkin Park is a band that has never been afraid to try new things which has played a key role in the process of the band evolving over the years. They are a band that can do it all, whether it’s hardcore screaming, raw emotion, ballads or incorporating techno to their sound, just some of the many reasons why they continue to thrive in an industry where only the strong can survive.
