Hard Rock Tuesdays: Heavens Basement
As long as I can remember, music has always been a huge part of my life especially rock and roll, whether it was going through my awkward, shy teenage years, cranking up the stereo and just letting go of childhood mundane problems and unto my adult life going to concerts, road trips, or just your typical average day. I don’t think I have ever gone a day in my life without having music in the background at some point. It’s a proven fact that music has a unique link to our emotions and can have an extremely relaxing effect on our minds and bodies. So what are you waiting for? Take a minute or two out of your busy day and turn up some music.
With that being said, last November I found myself in Quebec City going to see The Pretty Reckless for the 3rd time and I ended up falling in love with the opening band Heavens Basement, who are a British hard rock band which consists of Aaron Buchanan (lead vocals), Sid Glover (guitar), Chris Rivers (drums) and Rob Ellershaw (bass). They released their full-length debut album, Filthy Empire, on February 4, 2013 and are best known for their relentless touring schedule and energetic live performances. They’re musical role models growing up stem anywhere from Aerosmith, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, to Guns N’ Roses that have been major influences in their own music. They’ve had several opportunities to tour with the great artists like Bon Jovi, Buckcherry, PapaRoach and Theory of a Deadman, after spending so much time as supporting acts for various artists including The Pretty Reckless and Black Veil Brides as of March 2014 they began their first headlining tour across the United Kingdom and Europe.
Every so often a band comes out of the woodwork and climbs to phenomenal heights in just a few years. Heavens Basement is the latest band to do just that in only a few years. They have been together since 2008 and from the start they began winning over audiences all over Europe to North America. Every die-hard music fan remembers the British Invasion in the ’60s where some of the greatest bands in music history hail from. Musicians like The Beatles, Queen and The Rolling Stones followed decades later by Radiohead, Coldplay and many more, perhaps Heavens Basement will be along that list one day.
If you get a chance to see these guys live, try and get out and see them, they are awesome performers that get the crowd pumped every time. I had a chance to meet the band after their show in Quebec City, and Buchanan stated that they play every show as if it is their last. It shows! There is never a dull moment in a Heavens Basement performance. It’s not uncommon to see lead vocalist Aaron at some point in their show crowd surfing. As for their music, Buchanan’s impressive range rips through every note flawlessly, while Glover showcases masterful riffs, and Ellershaw and Rivers have strong in sync dynamic melody in hit songs like, Nothing Left to Lose, I am Electric, and Heartbreaking Son of a Bitch.
Heaven’s Basement proves that rock and roll definitely is not dead. This is a band to keep your eye on, as they are taking the rock world by storm, one city at a time.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK
“When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down “happy.” They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.” – John Lennon
