Juste la fin du monde in Competition at Cannes
Xavier Dolan’s new film Juste la fin du monde (English title: It’s Only the End of the World) is going to be in competition at Cannes Film Festival. Les Films Séville announced the news yesterday as the festival had a press conference announcing the rest of the Official Selection.
The film stars many of France’s big name actors, including Vincent Cassel, Marion Cotillard, Léa Seydoux, Gaspard Ulliel and Nathalie Baye. It’s an adaptation of a play by Jean-Luc Lagarce that tells the story of a young actor who returns to his hometown after many years to let his family know of his imminent death.
Dolan’s first time in competition at Cannes was for Mommy in the 2014 edition of the festival, which resulted in his film being awarded the Prix du Jury alongside Jean-Luc Godard’s Adieu au langage in a rare double win. Many were disappointed that Mommy was not given a higher prize, so it remains to be seen whether Dolan will snatch up a big win this year with his new film.
The Cannes Film Festival is scheduled for May 11-22, and Juste la fin du monde will hit theatres in Quebec and France later this year on September 21st.
