Filling a long building in the Old Port, Foire Papier is a chance for the contemporary art market of Montreal to mix and mingle. Toronto sends its share of representatives, as do some other major Canadian cities (Calgary, Halifax). About 40 galleries hang works, most for sale, creating a kind of impromptu salon. Alongside the art are a series of panels and workshops that happen in a salon area. It is a well-attended event, with curious lookers and serious collectors alike gazing at the works. Most works are various types of prints, but there are also paintings and some sculptural works as well.
