Punk-Up Your Weekend @ Punk-O-Rama Fest 2015
“Wearing culture on their backs, wearing spirit on their hats, one by one they’ll join the parade and celebrate” – Every Town Will Celebrate, Erik Petersen (Mischief Brew)
Another spirited weekend of punk rock music is rapidly on its way for the 2015 edition of Punk-O-Rama Fest. Proudly presented by Cider Punk Productions in cooperation with Farnham Ale & Lager, Foufounes électriques and TRH Bar, this festival will unravel from July 31st to August 2nd, within the confines of the charmingly trashy TRH Bar (renown for its skater bowl) and the flamboyant Foufounes électriques.
An incredibly diverse line-up – presented under a DIY setting to enhance the intimacy of each show – will offer guests a lot of different moods to indulge in. As headliners, we’ve got the lyrically brilliant and melodically addictive Mischief Brew, an anarcho-punk band that often blends folk, gypsy punk and even swing to their gritty sound. Les chiens de ruelle and Tintamare will have audience members completely hooked to their lively Québécois folk-punk, while Street Meat add a more hillbilly edge to the event. All the latter bands use a very wide variety of instruments to spice up their sets, from stand-up bass and accordions to banjos and mandolins.
Punk-O-Rama also encourages local bands such as Ripcordz (going as far back as 1980 in the Montreal music scene!), The Horny Bitches (intense female punk rock), Manipulated Outcome (hardcore punk group born from the grungy remnants of the Montreal Fattal community) and Les Ordures Ioniques (raw francophone street punk).
Kill Matilda, despite their somewhat corny monster rock aesthetic, will add some metal-head fun to the event, with a female singer who has one of the most entrancingly sexy voices I’ve heard in a while. Exploring Dora, a local hardcore ska band, will get crowds dancing with their solid horn section. And coming way down from Texas, the incredibly angry-sounding Bloodfuckers are sure to rile you up.
Furthermore, this year’s Punk-O-Rama will be hosting a new and quite exciting addition: the Acoustic BBQ, happening every day of the festival from 5 to 7 pm. On Friday, TRH’s skater bowl is hosting the legendary Chris Cresswell from the Flatliners, sided by Jenn Fiorentino. Saturday, Erik Petersen (Mischief Brew) is playing alongside The Annoying at TRH. And finally, on Sunday, Kman (from the ska band Kman and the 45s) is presenting his new acoustic act with The Drunken Wobblies, at Foufounes électriques.
So if you want to find out how horny the Horny Bitches are, and who is this Matilda that Kill Matilda want to murder, please hop by Punk-O-Rama this weekend to indulge in glorious music, exhilarating alcohol binges and vivacious festivities!
