Review of Sèxe Illégal: entertaining, versatile, illegal
Article by Behnam Zeraei
Every Wednesday night Club Soda on St Laurent gets packed with French speaking comedy enthusiasts of Montreal. Every seat on the floor and the terrace was taken in anticipation of an intense, daring and insanely funny talk-show: Sèxe Illégal! In partnership with Just For Laughs, MAtv presents an edited version of the show seen on TV. If you count yourself on the less sensitive side, you must come watch it live (though it’s worth noting that it’s good if you understand French, as this is the language the show is conducted in).
Paul Sèxe and Tony Légal, architects of the comical talk-show Sèxe Illégal, exchange chat about every aspect of life, from politics to food, and from racism to impairment. The show puts the audience in a talk-show environment where different comedians are invited on stage to carry out an act. After each performance, the comedians get interviewed by these two foolish folks.
Every Wednesday, Club Soda turns into a stage for an open, liberal and wicked type of humour and even some musical performance. These two brilliant fellows aren’t scared of making racial jokes, “Il y a sûrement des asiatiques dans la sale, non je ne pense pas Paul les dépanneurs ferment à 11h,” says Tony.
Sèxe Illégal at Club Soda guarantees a great night out for those seeking to witness some of the greatest French Montreal comedy. From the beginning of the show till the very end, Paul and Tony stay in character and evolve on the stage, improvising their way through the show; talking about different parts of the world they have travelled to and different people they have stumbled upon. They believe famous people come to their show to support them: “Plusieurs vedettes viennent nous voir à chaque soir. Au balcon, c’est Martin Luther King. On ne le voit pas beaucoup d’ici, il ne sourit pas,” says Tony. Their last talk-comedy-show will happen on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, so until that date, you can enjoy this “illegal” duo.
Sèxe Illégal, presented by Just For Laughs, takes place at Club Soda (1225 St-Laurent) every Wednesday night at 8:00 pm. Tickets: Free. For more information go HERE
