Bustified – Busty And The Bass
Who would have guessed that jazz is alive and well for a certain group of Montrealers? The most recent release from Busty and The Bass is fantastic, jazzy and a little different. From hip hop inspired vocals on some tracks to some great live recordings, the new EP “Bustified” is really worth the free download.
This group is definitely on the brink of becoming something. Their unique multi-piece band is made up of very talented musicians and their new EP reveals just how talented they are. While listening the only thing I wished I could change was having recording pressed into vinyl. The smooth playing of saxophone, trombone and trumpets mixed with a modern hip hop twist makes for some great listening.
“Bustified” is the kind of EP that you put on when your cool friends come over. It is refreshingly good and the perfect EP for a night in with friends. I give the EP a solid A-, and I can’t wait to hear more from Busty and The Bass.
Tough Love – Jessie Ware
“Tough Love” is the sophomore release from Jessie Ware, and currently many tracks off this album are popping up on online radio. Though she is recently engaged, the album is centred on the idea of unrequited love. Each of the tracks on this album feature light and fresh electronic sound paired with Ware’s soulful singing.
Though each song is almost about the same thing, the album is easy to listen to with a few really excellent tracks. Some of the songs on the album are really well put together, leaving enough time for both the vocals and tune to become great to listen to.
All in all, the album does take a different direction from usual pop music. It’s a bit lighter and a lot more meaningful. It is clear that there was a lot of personality put into each song on the record, and to me that is a great characteristic of an artist. I give the album a B, it is good but nothing really struck me as overly exceptional.
