To Do: Celebs and Soccer on a Sunday
Local pub staff and media face-off on the pitch to raise funds for local charities
In it’s 6th incarnation, the Burgundy Lion Pub’s GOALMTL Lions Cup Soccer Tournament will see 24 teams battle it out to raise funds for two Montreal charities. This year’s beneficiaries are the Tyndale St-Georges Community Centre in Griffintown and Montreal Community Cares.
Come out and see your favourite bar and restaurant staff play, as well as a team made up entirely of Montreal celebrities and media stars. The teams pay to participate and vie for the coveted Lion’s Cup Trophy. You can help them raise more by purchasing a raffle ticket at the tournament or at Burgundy Lion Pub, Bishop & Bragg, Brit & Chips and Newland & Jump. They’ve raised $127 000 so far! Prizes for the raffle are amazing: one month’s use of a Silver Star Mercedes, 50,000 Aeroplan Miles; Canadiens, New York Red Bulls & Impact signed jerseys; Dinner with Montreal Alouettes’ Defensive End #7 John Bowman & other members of the team; a signed guitar from rock singer Jonas; and Osheaga, Heavy Montreal & IleSoniq weekend passes.
This promises to be an afternoon of fun for all ages! Play a game of pick-up, nosh on some great street food, groove to live music and help a great cause.
