The Artistorian’s Weekly Picks September 29 to October 5
The Artistorian's Weekly Picks September 29 to October 5
This week combines many of my favourite things: installation, colour, immersive environments, fashion and thoughtful art. Here’s what the first week of October has in store for us…
I never play basketball now, exhibit
Eva Taulois, I never play basketball now
Diagonale, until October 17
Eva Taulois just completed a summer residency at Diagonale and the final product is being exhibited for another few weeks. Deconstruction and reconstruction of familiar objects, minimalism and colour are what you can expect.
La Quête du Mystère, exhibit
Graziella Malagoni, La Quête du Mystère
TOHU, Espaces Cascades from September 30 to October 31
Check out work by artist Graziella Malagoni at TOHU, starting tomorrow! A huge installation made entirely out of silk features stories, symbols and inspiration from all over the world. I love a good old immersive installation.
BPLTC I: Cellular Control, exhibit
Stranger Visions, 2012-13
Eastern Bloc, until October 14
Featuring work by artists Heather Dewey-Hagborg, Verena Friedrich and SubRosa, Cellular Control is the first of a three-part series of exhibits on the theme of biopolitics. The artists question the role of technology in controlling human activity.
Les natures mortes: Épisodes de petits déclins, vernissage
Annie Baillargeon, Le rêve
Galerie D’Este, October 1 from 5 to 8 PM
Opening of Annie Baillargeon’s solo exhibit displaying her unique take on the still life (nature morte). Part photography, part painting, this multidisciplinary body of work is evocative, intriguing and strange (a good strange, by the way).
Stripped, fashion show/fundraiser
Stripped, SHNQ
Théâtre St. James, October 1 from 7 to 11 PM
Stripped is back this Thursday for its second annual event. A fundraiser supporting sex ed projects, this atypical fashion show promotes healthy body image and acceptance. Buy your tickets here.
MUTEK_IMG Virtual Reality, exhibit
Phi Centre, October 1-3
Enter the world of virtual reality! MUTEK_IMG invites the public to learn more about the fundamentals of VR and the Phi Centre is giving us free access to 20+ works of VR cinema and experience! Check out the schedule of events here, including roundtables, panels, presentations, discussions and workshops.
