Opera de Montréal Announces Another Brick in the Wall
As a newcomer to my birthright city, I must say that Montreal is very hospitable with a twist of class. Now a stranger to the Olympic Stadium, staff efficiently helped me find my way to the press room, where it soon filled to capacity with reporters. With glasses of wine in hand, the Opéra de Montréal unveiled their 2016-2017 program, with the presentation of its opera, Another Brick in The Wall: The Opera. Inspired by the lyrics and music of Roger Waters, The Wall will be presented as a world premiere in collaboration with the Society for the Celebration of Montreal’s 375th anniversary. Pierre Dufour, executive director and Michel Beaulac, artistic director, Opera de Montreal, Gilbert Rozon, Commissioner and France Chretien Desmarias, President of the Board of Directors for the Celebrations for Montreal’s 375 Anniversary introduced key note speaker, Roger Waters.
Roger Waters, opened by apologizing for his behaviour the last time he visited the Stadium in ’76 and today most of Montreal graciously accepted. He proceeded to thank the opera for the honour of sharing the city’s anniversary with him and the collaboration on Another Brick in The Wall:The Opera. Yet again, the question of Water’s behaviour 40 years ago came up… I was there, at the concert, back in ’76 and missed it, or else I don’t remember it either. What I do remember is the warm air, the spectacular new Olympic Stadium, and of course listening to the music.
It’s all about the music. This is a show not to miss.
