Art Brasilis First Timer at Puces Pop and Espace Pop
For anyone who loves to find a treasure or two, then no doubt you made your way to investigate the wonderful designer goods on offer last weekend at the Puces Pop Festival! An artisan fair hosted three times annually, Puces Pop is an incredible opportunity for artists, designers, small businesses and the public to share the joys of artisanal goods. From gourmet delights, to fashion, to home wares and all in-between, there was a little something here for everyone to discover.
Held at Église Saint-Denis, the basement of the church was transformed into a market heaven from Friday evening through to Sunday afternoon. Here, it was a pleasure wandering through the aisles, admiring the incredible Canadian and international works on offer. And after the arts and crafts, a little taster of all the sweet and savoury treats to sample was a wonderful end to the evening.
Established in 2004, Puces Pop has became so popular over the recent years that the festival has grown exponentially. With an average of 8000 visitors each time, Puces Pop is considered an important event in Montreal’s artistic and cultural community.
Brazilian designer, Marianne Swirski was one of the many stall holders at this springtime fair representing her works and business Art Brasilis.
Art Brasilis is inspired by the connections between art, design and craft in Brazil. What started as a small family business has grown to become a label available worldwide. And just last month, Art Brasilis was accepted as a member of the World Fair Trade Organisation.
This was the first time Art Brasilis has been a part of a Pop-Up Montreal event. Owner and designer, Swirski, says she was absolutely honoured to have been chosen to take part in the fair. “It has made me feel as if I am a part of Montreal and it’s creative atmosphere!”
“Puces Pop is a great way for young designers to validate their work, receive feedback and have the opportunity to meet other wonderful artists and designers,” she says.
Pop Montreal hosts various events annually. Other than Puces Pop, Espace Pop is a store front located on Parc Avenue. The venue hosts different events and pop-up shops each weekend. This weekend, working with Kanoa Jewelry (imported Brazilian jewelry) and Montreal-based Brazilian illustration artist Camila Picheco, Art Brasilis will have their works for sale. “I love the spirit of a pop-up shop, always something new and fresh,” Swirski says. So for a little taste of Brazil and local design, pop down next weekend to the Espace Pop-Up Store and keep a look out for Montreal’s next Puces Pop Festival!
Espace Pop is located at 5587 Parc Avenue. Art Brasilis, Kanoa Jewelry and Camila Picheco will have their works for sale. The shop will be open Friday 6th, Saturday 7th from 10am – 7pm, Sunday 8th from 10am – 5pm.
