Hard Rock Tuesdays: Heavy Montreal Ends With A Bang!

Apparently quite a few of the Saint–Lambert residence found the noise from Heavy Montreal to be a bit more than irritating this past weekend. Well, they should be able to get some rest now that the festival is over, at least until Heavy Montreal comes back next year. I can see how it could be somewhat annoying living so close to Parc Jean-Drapeau when these festivals take place, but personally, I don’t see what all the fuss is about in regards to sound restrictions they are trying to petition for, especially considering the festival finishes every night at 11 p.m. There are more positives than negatives for having festivals like Osheaga and Heavy Montreal here. The festivals generate an enormous amount of revenue for Montreal every year, bringing people together and creating memories that will last a lifetime, a bonus for sure is the fact that everyone across the river got to hear Metallica and so many other great bands for free, and that’s pretty awesome if you ask me!

Heavy Montreal put on an epic head banging, fist pumping festival this year which included a phenomenal line up. Some of the bands that took the stage and kicked some ass were bands like Dropkick Murphys (read our interview HERE), Slayer, Anthrax, Metallica, Offspring, Twisted Sister, Pennywise, Bad Religion, Baby Metal, and Body Count, and that’s not even half of them…

I had the pleasure of doing some interviews with a few of the bands that were at Heavy Montreal this year, Bad Religion (coming soon), Dropkick Murphys (HERE) and Fucked Up (below). I sat down for a brief Q&A with member Josh Zucker from the hardcore punk band Fucked Up who performed Sunday at Heavy Montreal, here is our interview:

Fucked-Up

Debra Heather (DH):  Favorite song and places to perform live?

Josh Zucker (JZ): Don’t have a favorite song, but I most enjoy playing anywhere we’ve never played before.

DH: Let’s talk about Glass Boys, can you tell our readers a bit about the album and what they can expect from it in comparison to your previous albums?

JZ: It’s a bit shorter, more direct, more personal, less bright than our last album but not as dark as the album before that.

DH: I know you guys have played at several festivals including Soundwave in Australia, and Festival of the Fuck Bands music festival in Fucking, Austria (just had to throw that one in there, love the name, haha.) Now Heavy Montreal, which is just around the corner, can you tell me what experiences you take away from playing at festivals as opposed to smaller venue performances?

JZ: Playing the Festival of the Fuck Bands was truly special, to gather together hundreds of bands from every corner of the globe that had independently decided to put the word fuck in their band’s name and playing for an audience comprised only of people whose actual given names were “Fuck”… it’s just hard to describe how it made us all feel.

I hope everyone had a great time at Heavy Montreal this year. I can’t wait to hear about your experiences. That wraps up everything I have for the festival and I can’t wait for next year’s event.
