Get To Know Confident Dreamer Tamara Weber-Fillion
"I had this dream for like forever, but I being a "confident" dreamer always got me further than I would have been"
Tamara Weber-Fillion is an amazing Montreal-based singer and songwriter. Her music has magic in it, I swear. The way her voice and the instrumentals blend together is beautiful; it’s like hearing maple syrup. I was lucky enough to get a chance to ask her a few questions. She’s got an upcoming show at Petit Campus on June 4th, take a listen to her music here or wait and hear the magic live.
Robyn Homeniuk (RH): Introduce yourself. Who are you? What are you all about?
Tamara Weber-Fillion (TWF): My name is Tamara Weber-Fillion, I’m a 24-year-old singer and songwriter. I’m all about music, astrology, cats and bacon.
RH: What made you choose music-creating above all else?
TWF: I believe that music-creating chose me instead. I’m a pretty instinctive writer. I’m not the kind to sit down with my guitar with the intention of writing a song, it usually comes pretty naturally and I love it that way. I intend to write from the heart and I think people can feel it.
RH: Who (in space and time) has MOST inspired you in your personal creations?
TWF: I really believe it’s a mix of few artists like Avril Lavigne, Our Lady Peace, Elliott Smith, Jacks Mannequin, Simon & Garfunkel, REM. When I love an artist, I kind of get a little obssessed, listen to their cd on repeat for weeks and then move on to another artist and then go back to those same old loves.
RH: Where has been your favourite venue to date?
TWF: Le Vieux Bureau de Poste at St-Romuald. It’s intimate and warm. I love those kind of places.
RH: Whom do you want to work with most, in the entire “show business”?
TWF: I have a list of a few musical dreams I have and first one on the list: Writing a song with Raine Maida (Our Lady Peace’s frontman). This guy inspires me with his voice, his words, his sensibility, his humanity… He’s been around for a while which is respectable. I also love his solo project and the fact that he’s doing is part in human causes… I had this dream for like forever, but I being a “confident” dreamer always got me further than I would have been. I’d also be thrilled to jam with Ed Sheeran
RH: Dream/goal location to play in?
TWF: I’d like to travel the whole world with my music, but I have to admit California would rock!
RH: Indoor or outdoor shows?
TWF: My music is more an indoor kind and I prefer the intimacy that it brings. I also love outdoors shows though.
RH: Favourite meal in Montreal?
TWF: I’ve only been in Montreal since last July. I haven’t had the time to experiment that much. But since I’m a huge bacon fan, I’d say Brutus for now!
RH:Top five music/movie/book (album OR song OR artist).
TWF: It’s hard to only pick 5 duh! I picked 10 for music, because it was too heartbreaking only taking 5
