Igloofest January 25 2015: Oliver Heldens Made Me Forget The Cold
Oliver Heldens is amazing, and if you aren’t a fan of him yet I don’t know what is stopping you. Igloofest is definitely one of those festivals where an artist has one of the best experiences of their career… why? There are literally thousands of people who come to hear your set, while it feels something like -30C outside. Though I’m sure there were a few people who weren’t enjoying the cold, to me it is just an invitation to dance even harder.
Here’s Oliver Heldens New Single:
Heldens took us several levels deep last night, and every moment was amazing. He manipulated vocals of artists like Tove Lo and Ellie Goulding and got whole crowd chanting along to parts. Heldens also proved his ability to make people bounce, seriously. I am pretty sure I spent more time bouncing than I did standing. What I thought was cute was how Heldens bounced along to the beats himself. There is nothing worse than a DJ who looks like they don’t even enjoy their own tunes.
The crowd was amazing and organized in an interesting way. Near the front, where I started my night, it was nice and warm because everyone was jumping and dancing. There was not a moment that I was not surrounded by at least six other parkas, for those who fear the cold go into the crowd! Near the back, the dancing gets a lot more creative and takes up a lot more space. I’m not too sure I understood it, but many of these dancers were also wearing onesies of one type or another. Up on the balcony there was a mini party onto itself, a bit of a mix of dancing styles and there is a great view of the stage. I will have to say this was as cold as I was.
Igloofest is such an amazing experience, I’m very happy that I could go this year. Oliver Heldens has been on my radar for the last few months so I was doubly happy to see an artist I’m excited about. I have two recommendations: first, if you live in Montreal and haven’t gone to Igloofest yet: forget your reservations about this festival and check it out; second if you haven’t listened to Oliver Heldens please do. He’s a great artist and is rising as quickly as Disclosure did. Did I mention that Oliver Heldens is only 19? He is super talented, and I have great expectations for him. I’m sure in a year or two, my friends will be jealous that I saw him at Igloofest.
