Photojournal: Hivernale January 30 2015
Turning unused urban spaces into urban events is at the heart of Hivernale, a new event taking place each weekend just outside Montreal’s Olympic Stadium. This free event created by Pépinière & Co. is meant to turn winter into one long party. DJs provide music to make you move. Labo Culinaire provides the food, with different chefs showcasing their work. A bar has cocktails created just for the event too. Other offerings include outdoor skating (free!) and a two-track Bavarian curling rink.
January 30 featured High Heels Prohibited and Danse Contact bringing DJs Nymra & Sofisticated and Maus to the decks. Food was provided by Varsovie (Ali el Garani and Frederic Bourgeult of Buvette Chez Simon). This menu included an Eastern European selection of bone-nourishing food: pirogies, beet soup, and Kluski stuffed with ham, leek, and mustard seed. Cheesecake with poppy and jam finished things off. Hot wine was available, and the hot cocktail of the night was Le Chicken. We sent Derrick to check things out and this is his photojournal.
Hivernale runs every Friday and Saturday from 4 p.m. to around 11:30 p.m. at Olympic Park’s Esplanade Financière Sun Life. The event is free and runs weekends until March 7.
