Ask Cece: The Isolation Edition

Kind of freaking out here! I’m naturally a pretty horny person and can’t figure out how I’m supposed to have sex during quarantine. What’s safe? What’s not?

-Jess

Dear Jess,

I hear you. As someone currently isolated from all of the adults in the world, I have also asked myself this question many times. I Googled it for clarity.

It’s hard to find any information directly pertaining to us, I guess, but seeing as we’re basically on the same sinking ship as everyone else in the world I decided to go by what the CDC (USA) recommends.

So, I have to preface this by saying that if you’re quarantined you probably shouldn’t be having sex with anyone. Quarantine refers to people who’ve traveled, people showing symptoms of, or testing positive for Covid-19. Maybe you did mean this. I’ve just seen a lot of people confusing some terms and using them interchangeably — the others being self isolated or social distancing. These refer to the choice to actively stay away from people so as not to become sick with the virus and/or to become a potential vector for unknowingly passing it on. Those people, from what I understand, are the only ones among us “allowed” to have sex… but only if they already live with the person they’re planning to have sex with.

So if you live with a significant other, or FWB, or sex doll, you can go to town as soon as you finish reading this sentence.

Otherwise, it’s safest and wisest to just have sex with yourself. Sex toys might be of interest to you at this time. You can order them online— though last night I saw a viral video of a postal worker asking people to stop ordering unnecessary shit online, so your role in his agony is your call.

Just don’t get arrested for a dick appointment, Jess!!!

  1. How are you coping with all this? I’m scared but I’m scared for me children. How do I help my anxiety because it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere and I feel like I’m losing it..
