Catch these Two Comics at Just for Laughs!
Sydnee Washington and Nath Valvo at JFL
Already in its 41st edition, the world’s biggest comedy festival Just for Laughs is back! Just like every year, there are a lot of amazing acts coming through the city to share their best material. Two very notable comedians will be a part of the Mae Martin Gala which will be on July 29th at Places Des Arts-Maisonneuve.
First off, we have the hilarious Sydnee Washington whose roots go back to Brooklyn and Oakland. Just to name a few, Washington has worked with top comedians in the sketch comedy show Inside Amy Schumer, ZIWE, a comedy showcase (Knitting Factory) created by Hannibal Burress, and in HBO Max’s Search Party. Aside from these impressive credentials, Washington has an equally entertaining online presence through Instagram.
Washington’s comedic style will keep you at the edge of your seat while charming you completely with her ridiculously accurate observances and views. Washington is currently working on a new solo show called “How to Start a Fire” so keep your radar open and ready for more laughs.
Her shine is only growing so make sure to catch her at one of her shows in the circuit! On top of the Mae Martin gala, Washington will be doing her solo show at Théâtre Saint Catherine on July 29th.
Next up we have Nath Valvo from Melbourne, Australia. Valvo sports a very vibrant contagious energy and is a part of three shows this year. Be sure to catch his musings at the following shows: New Faces of Comedy held at the Monument-National – Ludger-Duvernay on July 28th which he will be hosting, and a solo show at the beautiful Café Cléopatre on July 27th. Valvo has been nominated for Best Newcomer at the 2016 Edinburgh Fringe, the 2019 Melbourne International Comedy Award, and been a part of the Tiffany Haddish JFL gala in 2019.
Although from all the way across a big pond, Valvo proves to be relatable, energetic and quirky. A guaranteed good time.
Just for Laughs is happening from July 14 to 29th, 2023 at various venues at Places-Des-Arts and downtown Montreal. Tickets and details HERE.
