My Montreal Bucket List: Tarte Citron at Patisserie Rhubarbe
Patisserie Rhubarbe is a wonderful pastry shop in Montreal. Visiting the store has been on my Montreal bucket list for quite some time now. Its name has been mentioned over and over and it has been recommended by other pastry and dessert enthusiasts alike. Especially the lemon tart! But it has taken me until this week to make it to this patisserie. This morning, the sun is shining, I jump on my bike, and off I go. I ride my merry way up Laurier Avenue to Patisserie Rhubarbe. I am so excited to finally try these wonderful desserts!
I sit at the table closest to the front window because I want to enjoy the light and sunshine on this glorious morning. I read my book as I enjoy my cafe latte. But the book goes down and the coffee is pushed aside as my tarte citron arrives to the table. As I sit, and after admiring its beauty, I delve into what was is the most glorious lemon tart I have enjoyed in some time. And that is a rather large claim…
The dessert sat beautifully on a buttery biscuit base. Long and rectangular, the perfectly constructed base was the frame for such beauty. On top sat the perfectly shaped, creamy yet tart and oh-so-delicious lemon. The star of the dessert, it stood proudly on its foundation. The lemon was topped with perfectly produced Italian meringue. Its marshmallow texture simply melted in your mouth. Garnished with fresh lemon segments to cut through the rich and creamy sweetness. It was heaven on a plate, quite simply…
The entire experience was perfect. The store was beautiful and the desserts were made with such love. I admire Patisserie Rhubarbe and all it’s beautiful creations.
