Techno All Night with OCTOV and Electric Rescue
After their last event (read about our take on it HERE) organized in Village au Pied-du-Courant, OCTOV invited Electric Rescue, the French techno DJ to their latest event.
The venue was downtown, an underground location that’s available for renting for special events. It suited the spirit of the long night that was ahead of us, big enough to provide avid dancers like me with a lot of space, a food stand for those who had an energy drop, fans to cool down the place and comfortable seats to relax.
OCTOV is a year old approximatively electronic music collective born from the friendship of two French men. They have been organizing underground parties and inviting international DJs to their events for the pleasure of house, deep house, tech house, techno, deep/dub techno, minimal and downtempo fans.
Mandy J. Daniels opened the night until 12 a.m. And then, Deep Spelle, the Montrealer DJ who we saw in the Detroit edition of International Saturdays in Village au Pied-du-Courant, heated the crowd and brought them to a pleasant state of mind with his upbeat yet melodic deep house.
You could feel the excitement of the crowd building up toward 1:30 a.m. as Electric Rescue was preparing to take over. For the last twenty years Electric Rescue built his international career as a French masterpiece of electronic music and whose hits are played regularly by other renowned artists like Laurent Garnier, Sven Väth, Slam, Dubfire, Stephan Bodzin or John Digweed. Playing in mythic clubs, he advocated with passion and modesty for his techno which is has a distinguished minimalistic yet elaborated sound. I am not a big fan of techno. I usually find it very repetitive and redundant, but I have to admit, I was sold to Electric Rescue’s techno. It didn’t feel repetitive and its electronic colorations brought a nice groove to the whole.
For the last set, the local DJ Rafa Pineda, who’s trying to find the perfect balance between Deep and Techno, took over at 3:30 a.m. and finished the night at 5 a.m.
It was over all a good and nice dancing party, quite enjoyable for techno lovers and even newbies.
