Comedy Review: McGill’s BYOJ live comedy sketch show
McGill’s very own live comedy sketch, BYOJ took place at Player’s Theater in the SSMU building (McGill downtown campus) last weekend. I’ll start with what I didn’t find amusing: finding the place, and I graduated from there! Conclusion: I either have a terrible sense of direction (which I do, but we’ll ignore it for the sake of the argument) or BYOJ is hard to find for the outsiders. And it’s a pity because this show rocked!
For a small-scale show, this was very well prepared and orchestrated. I really hope next year they will make it bigger because the tickets were sold out almost immediately after they were available, so this only tells you it’s going to be good!
BYOJ showed us some smart comedy on a professional level! With a team of only 15, these guys and girls transformed from one character to another seamlessly! And I mean different accents, dance skills and much more. From the sad reality of the current minimum wage to the way Canadians are perceived across the world, these guys did a great job at showing us some fun time with awesome stage presence and insane character transformation!
To summarize, there was everything you may wish for: music, singing, truly Canadian interpretation of a sketch, “Medieval Knievel” and a lot of clever and captivating comedy sketches with costumes and changing stage decor.
Conclusion: I’m super happy I found the place! If your anticipation for their next show (taking place next year) doesn’t kill you, then stay in touch — because once it’s announced next year, you’ll be the first ones to know!
WARNING: drinking beverages during the show may result in an involuntary hysterical laughing which may lead to juice (or any other beverage) exiting out your nose. :)
