How do we find our bearings in a whirlwind world?

Manuel Roque’s transition from inertia to momentum is sublime! This week, he is performing the solo “Le vent se lève” in the intimate space of La Chapelle.

Manuel Roque explores the multiple facets of dance. As both a performer and choreographer, he invites us to reflect deeply on the body and its expressive potential. His works, often marked by great technical virtuosity, reflect a constant search for integrity, curiosity, and benevolence. Last night, Manuel Roque offered us a dance that was both demanding and generous!

“Le vent se lève” is an exploration of the body in motion, tossed by the wind, searching for grounding in the void. Loss and reconstruction, incessant swirling — these are images drawn in black and white to express the nuances of a world in flux. This piece resonates with the collective inertia that surrounds us and the tremors that shake our certainties.

“Le vent se lève” especially invites us to contemplate the transition from stagnation to vital momentum, all bathed in joyful light. The repeating motifs, like rhythmic pulses, offer a sensation of liberation and soaring. The use of repetitive motifs is articulated with a liberating aim for an hour, making “Le vent se lève” a piece that truly celebrates through a bright and joyful aesthetic!

Manuel Roque’s performance, both as choreographer and performer, is remarkable. Karine Gauthier’s lighting adds a dreamlike dimension to the whole, while Manuel Roque’s original soundtrack transports us into a sound universe evoking the movements of the ocean, the pulse of life, and introspection.

A must-see!

Le vent se lève is at Le Chapelle from November 12-26. Tickets HERE.
